Kariya has hat trick but Stars top Blues

Dallas Stars center Mike Modano (9) raises his hand after scoring in the third period against the St. Louis Blues in a NHL hockey game in Dallas, Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007. Modano had the lone goal in a shootout, and the Stars overcame three third-period goals by the Blues' Paul Kariya to win 5-4 on Saturday night.

Stars goalie Mike Smith wanted to make amends after allowing three goals to Paul Kariya in the third period and letting what looked like an easy win over St. Louis go to overtime. His sprawling save on Kariya in the shootout did just that, and when Mike Modano’s goal stood up as the only one, Smith and the Stars had their win, 5-4 over the Blues 5-4 Saturday night.
