Cane Pace winner Always a Virgin won the first of two eliminations for the $805,480 Messenger Stakes at Yonkers Raceway on Saturday night. Always a Virgin, driven by Brian Sears, ran the mile in 1:53.1 and earned $40,000 while advancing to next Saturday’s eight-horse final. Hot Rod Mindle, with David Miller, came up the passing lane to edge Tivoli Hanover to capture the second trail at 1:54.0.
