Bills may release suspended DE Hargrove
Anthony Hargrove is running out of second chances with the Buffalo Bills, who are considering releasing the defensive end after he landed in trouble for the second time in a week. “Releasing him is an option,” coach Dick Jauron said Sunday, a day after the NFL suspended Hargrove for the first four regular-season games without pay for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Titans unimpressive without Young
Coach Jeff Fisher insists he was just enforcing the rules. He wasn’t sending a message that no one, not even Vince Young, is above them. Benching Young did prove how much the Titans need their quarterback on the field, not the sidelines. With Young punished for missing curfew, the Titans struggled to move the ball in the exhibition opener against Washington.
Ravens QB Troy Smith to debut Monday
The last time Troy Smith played a significant football game, he was vying for a national championship. In his NFL debut Monday night, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner will be competing for a job. NFL investigation of Vick continuing
Hanging in Arthur Blank’s opulent headquarters is a signed photograph of his star quarterback breaking away from a defender, a memento of happier times for the Atlanta Falcons. “To: Arthur. Millar’s HR in 10th lifts O’s over BoSox
Eric Gagne sat in front of his locker, his head down and his shoulders sagging. He wasn’t the one who gave up the game-winning home run to Kevin Millar, yet the struggling reliever heaped all the blame for Boston’s latest defeat squarely upon himself. Again. Millar hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning after Miguel Tejada tied it with a shot off Gagne in the eighth, leading the Baltimore Orioles…

After the Mets endured tough losses the previous two nights because of bullpen meltdowns, Aaron Heilman and Billy Wagner were hoping for a chance to redeem themselves. So it was appropriate that the New York bullpen found itself in another squeaker Sunday against Florida. This time, Heilman, Wagner and Co.
Pettitte, Giambi help Yanks sweep Tribe
Talk about your pushy New Yorkers. Strutting into Jacobs Field for the weekend, the Yankees made themselves right at home. They bullied the Cleveland Indians before leaving with three wins and the same confidence that has made them champions many times before. “I feel like we’re the team,” Andy Pettitte said.

Mariners’ Weaver blanks White Sox 6-0
Jeff Weaver is accustomed to slow starts. He’s also getting used to dominating late in the year. Weaver pitched his second shutout of the season and Adrian Beltre hit a two-run homer to lead the Seattle Mariners past the Chicago White Sox 6-0 Sunday. Weaver, who started the 2006 season 1-7 before becoming the World Series hero for the St.
