Penguins D Whitney has wrist surgery

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Ryan Whitney had surgery Thursday on his left wrist. The 24-year-old Whitney needs six to eight weeks of rehabilitation, but is expected to be ready for the start of training camp in September. Whitney tied for sixth in scoring among NHL defensemen with 59 points. He had 14 goals and 45 assists in 81 games.
