The latest victory completed a 7-0 road trip that included a four-game sweep of the Cardinals.

Gil Meche promised John Buck he’d pitch a good game if he could shave the catcher’s head. Buck lived up to his end of the bargain. He has the shiny dome and razor burns to prove it. Meche followed through, too, though it took a little longer. Meche pitched seven scoreless innings after a shaky start and Buck drove in two runs after his pregame haircut, helping the Kansas City Royals hold off Tampa…

When manager Bruce Bochy came trotting to the mound to visit Matt Cain with NL saves leader Brian Wilson already warming up, it looked as if Cain’s fine day might be done. Instead, Cain got to finish the job — and that meant working out of trouble with the game on the line. Cain pitched a four-hitter, Dave Roberts singled home a run in the eighth inning and the San Francisco Giants earned their…
