Dubai ruler buys pregnant dam of Eight Belles

A mare carrying a full sibling to Kentucky Derby runner-up Eight Belles was sold for $2.5 million to the world’s top thoroughbred buyer Monday, six months to the day since the filly’s fatal breakdown at Churchill Downs. The purchase of Eight Belles’ dam, Away, was one of few highlights on a generally sluggish opening session of Keeneland’s November breeding stock auction.
