Tigers, Rogers agree to 1-year deal

Kenny Rogers is staying right where he is. The 43-year-old left-hander ended his free agency Friday and will return to the Detroit Tigers for a third season. Rogers agreed to a one-year deal, representing himself in contract negotiations. “Kenny is a veteran presence that stabilizes our starting rotation,” team president Dave Dombrowski said in a statement.

Donovan McNabb is doubtful for the Eagles’ game against Seattle on Sunday after missing practice again Friday. Michael Vick should be allowed to keep nearly $20 million in bonus money even though his NFL career is on hold for his role in a dogfighting operation, a lawyer for the players’ union argued Friday. The NFL Players Association asked a federal judge to overturn a special master’s decision that Vick should forfeit the bonus money because of his guilty plea.

Texans G Pitts arrested for evading cops

Houston Texans offensive lineman Chester Pitts was free on bail Friday one day after he was arrested and charged with speeding off during a traffic stop near Reliant Stadium. Pitts was released from the city jail early Friday after posting bail, according to a jail attendant. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
