Arguing that the shift would create a marketing bonanza that would rival the Super Bowl, Boras outlined his ideas in a two-page letter he sent to baseball commissioner Bud Selig on April 15.

Kenny Perry was due for a good day. Following two chaotic days, Perry shot a 9-under 63 Friday to share the second-round lead at the Buick Open with Jim Furyk and Brett Quigley. Perry’s wife went to the hospital Wednesday because of food poisoning and on Thursday, he plunked two fans — shattering a woman’s nose and hitting a man’s shoulder.
Kris Tamulis looks like she’ll finally get to stick around for the weekend at the U.S. Women’s Open. The 26-year-old missed the cut in both of her previous appearances, but she closed out a first-round 72 to finish the first round Friday morning and followed with a steady 71 to stay close to the leaders.
A beachside guest house owned by Tiger Woods was destroyed by fire Friday. Martin County fire rescue spokesman Jim Loffredo said lightning caused the fire. The house was one of several homes Woods recently purchased in the area. The former owner was still living on the property, but was not home when the fire broke out, Loffredo said.
French rookie Franck Perera earned his first Champ Car Atlantic Championship pole position in final qualifying for Sunday’s race at Circuit Mont-Tremblant. Perera had the best lap at 109.175 mph in the No. 11 Condor Motorsports Mazda-Cosworth/Swift. The Frenchman is the only driver in the series to finish in the top five in all six of his starts in the 12-race championship.

Marvin Menzies wants to build on what Reggie Theus started at New Mexico State. He promised he’d stay longer at the mid-major school, too. Like Theus, Menzies is a former assistant to Rick Pitino at Louisville. He’s taking over an Aggies program that Theus rebuilt in just two seasons before leaving to become the head coach of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings earlier this month.
Ball State University is investigating the source of notes with racist language found in the offices of men’s basketball coach Ronny Thompson and his staff. The notes included copies of articles from the student newspaper about the school’s findings that Thompson, son of former Georgetown coach John Thompson, and his staff broke NCAA rules in May by being at voluntary offseason team workouts and…
Former Virginia Tech and Davidson head coach Bobby Hussey died Tuesday. He was 67. Hussey most recently worked as an assistant at Clemson for three seasons under head coach Larry Shyatt. Clemson officials said in a news release that Hussey died in a medical facility in Charlotte, N.C. There was no cause of death given.
Veteran forward Adam Mair re-signed for three years with the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. Mair earned a slight raise above the $675,000 he made last season. The deal was announced by his agent, Robert Gerow, and reached a day before Mair was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent. The seven-year NHL veteran spent the past four seasons with Buffalo.
House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman John Dingell said Monday he was concerned about the ability of fans to watch Big Ten sporting events on a new television network debuting this summer. Dingell, D-Mich., wrote Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany with questions about the Big Ten Network, which is expected to launch sometime in August.
