5 charged with doping horses

Five horsemen were indicted Friday on charges they tried to fix races by injecting harness horses with substances designed to deaden pain or improve performance. The investigation began in September at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway following a tip from people at the track that harness horses were being injected with cobra snake venom and Epogen.

Churchill Downs completes sale of Hoosier Park track

Churchill Downs Inc. announced Friday it has completed its sale of the Hoosier Park racetrack to Indianapolis-based Centaur Inc. The deal gives Centaur, which had owned 38 percent of Hoosier Park since 2001, full ownership of the track and sports betting parlors in Indianapolis, Merrillville and Fort Wayne. Centaur told the Indiana Horse Racing Commission in December that the sale price was $8.2 million.

Elusive Warning wins Aqueduct feature

Undefeated Elusive Warning romped to a five-length victory Friday in the $44,100 allowance feature for 3-year-olds at Aqueduct. The chestnut colt is unbeaten in two starts, winning both with ease. He captured his debut at Aqueduct last month by 7 1/2 lengths. Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and ridden by Alan Garcia, Elusive Warning ran the six furlongs in 1:09.82 on the fast track.

Scat Daddy a slight favorite for Florida Derby

Scat Daddy drew the No. 3 post position and was made the 5-2 morning-line favorite for Saturday's $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park — a race that could be a rematch of the Fountain of Youth Stakes.
